Folders isn’t some faceless corporation without a soul. It’s also not a rickety fly-by-night company. Folders is a local business with deep roots in New Zealand.
Our family has been running this business since 1963, when we focused mainly on dairy and beef farming. In Kaitaia, our roots go even deeper. The town was actually founded by one of our ancestors, Rev. Joseph Matthews. These small-town community values mean the customers who shop with us tend to stick with us because nobody else can match our service (or even our prices!)
This style of business was a necessity for us. As a rural retailer, in a town with a small population, our business doesn’t have a lot of ‘choice’ when it comes to customers. That meant over the decades we had to do a great job, or else people would go somewhere else and avoid us. At Folders, if we do something wrong, then the whole local community knows by lunchtime.
In 2005 we started selling a wider range of products, including furniture, appliances, and electronics. We’ve continued to expand as people have let us know what they’d like us to stock. We make sure our customers always have exactly what they need at a fair price.
