Dear Greetings,
Heritage proudly presents the important and diverse collection of Frederick H. Schrader, whose discerning taste and decisive nature led to tremendous success in the worlds of wine, art, and antiques.
Fred Schrader is often described as one of the "bad boys" of Napa Valley, a title that reflects his adventurous spirit and unconventional approach to life. Born in Inglewood, New Jersey, and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, Fred's early life was shaped by resilience and creativity, inspired by his father, who overcame polio to lead a life filled with remarkable achievements. This upbringing instilled in him a belief that anything is possible, a mantra that has guided him through his diverse career.
Initially making his mark in the world of art collectibles, Fred began as an art and antiques dealer in the late 1980s. His keen eye for valuable pieces and innate ability to negotiate made him a prominent figure in the art scene. In 1988, a chance invitation led Fred to the Napa Valley Wine Auction. This experience ignited a passion for wine. Fred established his own label, Schrader Cellars, in 1998. Though the inaugural vintage was met with lukewarm reviews, Schrader's fortunes turned when he partnered with winemaker Thomas Brown. In 2000, a transformative barrel sample from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard solidified Fred's direction, leading to an impressive collection of accolades, including thirty-nine perfect 100-point scores from top wine critics. An avid collector of fine wines,
Fred maintains a 5,000-bottle collection spread across various locations, including a locker at the famed '21' Club in Manhattan. His approach to wine tasting emphasizes the importance of exploration, as he often seeks out new experiences rather than indulging solely in his own creations.
Throughout his life, Fred has also been deeply involved in the art world, dealing in various collectibles and managing estate sales for notable figures like Jack Palance. His knack for discovery and negotiation has led to some remarkable finds, underscoring his belief that art and wine share a common thread: the thrill of the hunt. He has bought and sold more than 200,000 items and is still on the prowl for more. Living a lavish lifestyle, Fred surrounds himself with the things he loves, from exquisite art to fine cigars, Fred embodies the spirit of a true bon vivant, balancing his passions with an approachable charm. As Fred Schrader continues to navigate the worlds of wine and art, his story is one of reinvention, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the pursuit of excellence and
adventure.
