running a program prior to user logging in ?

is it possible in 2K or XP to run a program (in this instance, sol.exe
or windows solitaire for example) prior to the user logging in ? not
necessarily a script but an exe ?
i know under windows 9x/ME this was accomplished by running the
program as a service, how is it done under 2000 / XP ? if the same way

Hi,
I'm working on a windows 2000 workstation as "guest" which has been made a
member of the "powerusers" group.
When I try to use "runas" (shift right click) I'm asked for the admin
password, but when I put it in, I get "access denied".
The "runas" service is running, and I'm typing the correct admin passwor ...

prompted to install sec. update for Dot Net - KB928365

Hello, I've got WU set to prompt me, rather than automatically
install.. Today I got a WU alert asking me to install KB928365,
a security update for .Net 2.0.
As far as I can see, I don't actually have any flavor of .Net
installed at all. Why would I get this update?

Is Windows 7 Compatible w/Win2k DC?

We have a client running a Win2k domain, and just bought a new Win7 notebook.
Will we be able to add this system to the domain? I've searched for
information, but am unable to find a clear answer.
I would greatly appreciate any help in knowing whether this is possible, and
any gotchas if it is.

Does Word 2000 work under Windows 7?

I installed Office 2000 on my recently acquired Windows 7 Netbook and
Excel and Powerpoint appear to be working properly, but Word 2000 either
starts up without showing any toolbars and then stops responding or, if
I open it by double-clicking on a doc file, it does show the toolbars
but not the file content ...

I really do hope that you can help me with this. Do you happen to know where
I can get recovery CD's for my computer as my computer manufacturer no longer
has or makes them anymore. A site perhaps maybe? The computer manufacturer
told me that Microsoft would probably have them and if not then can you

Microsoft Visual studio 2005 - bcp path error

I am running the bcp utility under Microsoft Visual studio 2005 and receive
the following in the progress log:

Event viewer now crashes if I attempt to sort by date or time.

Just yesterday, my Event Viewer starting crashing if I click on the
"Time" or "Date" headers. What could cause this? Hopefully the
program itself (mmc or it's event-viewer plugin) is not corrupt.
I'm hoping it's due to something else, like too much data
overflowing a buffer, or some needed service is stopped o ...
