At first glance, it looks like an egg cooker, a humidifier, or maybe an early microwave. But then the pictures reveal that it's a portable record player. When Patrice Dupont designed it, it must have been one of the coolest gifts a music-loving teenager could get in the 1970s. Even the name "Philips Space Age UFO Turntable 22GF303" suggests it was among the most modern and exciting of its kind. The sound quality probably wasn't the best, but who cared? It was both cool and super modern. Maybe it's time to dust off those old vinyl records again.

Sometimes I think, "I wonder if people 200 years ago would have done this if they had the chance," considering today's (unnecessary) technology. In my "feed," I often see video clips of animals doing something funny or clever. So, when I see the artist and forest scientist Anders Wahlgren's painting of "Miss, the Faithful Animal", the answer is, "Yes, they would have!" In 1887, he painted his beloved dog with a treat on its nose without eating it. In 2025, he probably would have posted a picture of this on social media.

Clarice Cliff’s Bizarre range debuted nearly 100 years ago, yet her bold, colorful designs remain as striking as ever. Clarice Cliff pottery is fun to collect as there’s an endless variety of patterns and shapes, from landscapes like Honolulu shown on the teacup here, to geometric and floral motifs. A team of ‘paintresses’ hand decorated the designs onto jugs, vases, chargers, and more. Collectors like to see the Art Deco period reflected in her work, so angular forms like conical sugar sifters are always in demand. Scarcity factors into value, with widely produced designs like Autumn Crocus remaining affordable, while rarer patterns, such as the short-lived Applique range, command fierce competition at auction. Tea, anyone?
