On December 10, during our Modern & Contemporary Art Signature® Auction, we will present Andy Warhol's iconic 1973 painting Mao. This example of Warhol's portrait of Mao Tse-tung,
which is awash in blue, burgundy, ochre and black, is one of the most desirable from the late artist's portrait series of China's Chairman. The painting, which is signed twice, also comes with outstanding provenance, having once belonged to acclaimed interior designer and longtime Warhol partner Jed Johnson. Jed's brother Jay Johnson inherited the work, and it later became part of the important Ammann collection from which it was acquired by our consignor. Our December 10 auction marks the first time the work will cross the block in its impressive history.

Among the many highlights in our December 5 Fine Furniture & Decorative Arts auction is a collection of lacquered pieces from the period of Louis XV. A Louis XV Gilt Bronze, Marble-Mounted and Japanned Lacquer Commode, circa 1750, and a pair of Louis XV Gilt Bronze-Mounted and Japanned Lacquer Encoignures,
circa 1755-1760, each with the signature of Mathieu Criaerd (1689-1776) are notable, but perhaps the gem is a
Louis XV Gilt Bronze-Mounted Japanned and Vernis Martin Lacquered Bureau de Pente or Petit Escritoire, circa 1755, signed I DUBOIS JME, for Jacques Dubois, maître in 1742. Other notable French works include a Louis XV Gilt Bronze-Mounted Amaranth and Tulipwood Parquetry Inlaid Bureau Plat.

A preeminent figure in American Art since the 1960s, Robert Indiana was known for his hard-edge painting, sculpture and Pop Art. Indiana's most iconic work is his LOVE design, which became an international sign of transcendent power in 1965, when the Museum of Modern Art selected the artwork for its Christmas card. In 1966 Indiana manufactured a limited edition of 100 18k gold LOVE rings, each marked with the artist's initials and series number. This ring, available in our December 5
Holiday Fine Jewelry Signature® Auction, is a limited-edition piece, marked RI42, indicating it is number 42 of only 100 made in 1966, making it a rare and highly sought-after collectible.
