GER 5 & 7 PLANK WAGONS NEW TOOLING

Rapido is heading east and expanding their range of Great Eastern models with the brand-new OO Gauge GER 5-Plank and 7-Plank all-purpose General Merchandise Open Wagons. A whopping 27 different models are to be produced incorporating three wagon diagrams with numerous detail variations. |

To supplement the Great Eastern Railway's dedicated Loco Coal Trucks during times of heavy purchasing, a fleet of reliable all-purpose wagons suitable for minerals and general merchandise were built, mainly to help transport coal from the Midlands. The humble high-sided 5 & 7 plank open wagons were the mainstay of the fleet, with the Diagram 17s being the most numerous of them all. |

Rapido are also expanding their range of ready to run LB&SCR themed rolling stock with this newly tooled range of Diagram 8 8-ton covered vans in OO Gauge. 18 different models replicating a plethora of livery options are to be produced with accurate variations for different underframe parts and wheel types. |

The LB&SCR had a relatively modest number of covered vans in its fleet, likely owing to the number of open wagons with sheet rails in their possession. Between 1878 and 1915 however, almost 600 standardised covered goods vans were built to Diagram 8 - which were primarily used for general goods traffic and perishables. |
